Quote from Dorkman :Thanks for the suggestions thus far guys. I really appreciate it!

And when I say 'Sportsman'...I dont think we are thinking the same thing Christoper. The cars in the 'Sportsman' class around here are tube chassied vehicles. I guess similar to what the U.S. ranks would call 'Late Models' only less power. Fully tweakable and te like.

http://speedway.brandnewkickz.com/?page_id=6

Those are the rules, the class he runs in is the 'Martin's Home Heating Sportsman' division.

Ahh, yeah we call them limited late models =) sportsmen vehicles are older vehicles with factoryish power and no suspension changes.

Well a 'sportsman' shouldn't really have much of anything to adjust, just be there if something breaks =)

You mean you want to know what an A-arm is? Or tie rod end? Differential?

www.howstuffworks.com may help with some of those.

Quote from dougie-lampkin :It's gonna be neon, glow in the dark, translucent, fluorescent, hypervescent, uber-virgin Dot 21. And it's going to go on a Peugot 106

LOL With a big rear F1 wing and wide body kit? Don't forget you go faster with a stock engine and lots of stickers, especially NOZ!!!1111!! ones.

Quote from dougie-lampkin :See-through brake lines then?

That would work, as long as the brake fluid is glow in the dark =)

=)

Kinda these you place on the wheel and at certain revolution rates the lights will make a picture

Quote from dougie-lampkin :Bob, I'm disappointed in you...where's the neon pads and the NAWZ Dot 21 brake fluid? I thought you were committed to this idea

LOL forgot the neon lights that make a picture when spinning too =)

Quote from Bob Smith :Yeah. He's an artists impression of these brakes working flat out.

I suggest Mk2 version of the brakes should allow for easy-over cooking.

LOL will the Mk2 have orange/blue/white in it? Don't forget the flames when the fluid pushes past the seals on the piston =) Thats my favorite part

Quote from flymike91 :Spider TLR is a good all around gun. Probably along the same lines as the tippmann but comes close to your budget including a CO2 tank, barrel plug and cleaning kit. I bought an American (brand name) barrel that really boosted the accuracy. I'll say that spyders are more easily and inexpensively modded. Electronic trigger frames, triggers, feed tubes, barrels, dropforwards, regulators, low pressure chambers, velocity adjusters are all easy to come by. It is very popular because it adapts to the player. A new player will enjoy it stock but it can be modded into a serious competition gun.

Last I looked into it the spyders were just hitting the market, they sound like a good marker.

I would suggest getting a used marker first and go a season on that personally, I know I started playing but only ended up playing for a season. You playing rec ball or speed ball?

RO is awesome, I loved it. For people into FPS you have to try it. It's very different than CSS, but not as tactical as Ghost Recon.

Quote from SamH :Not per month, Chris

[edit] eek.. where is $1200 coming from??

That would be to cover the 6 years I have spent playing LFS if I wanted to play iRacing for that same amount of time thats the cheapest it would cost me for all the content available. Once more content is made available it will cost more as I would have pay to play with it.

Where as with LFS it would be what, $75 dollars by the time it's all said and done with S3? Sure the content may not have every component measured or every track laser scanned, it has a great community though and to me thats more important than having the latest gadget and gizmo. But it seems that I am a minority

Quote from dontsimon :As an iRacing tester I have watched their progress and can tell you that J Henry has spent an eye watering amount of money up front for this venture, through love of sim racing. And the LFS devs do this to make a living, I'm sorry if that comes as a shock to you, it isn't something that is mutually exclusive with doing something creative that you have a talent for.

And btw, where can people have the same for somewhere else?? Get your facts straight. The vehicle modelling itself is beyond anything done before. The measuring and weighing of individual vehicle components to help model a vehicle is something never seen or done before in sim racing.

My facts are perfectly strait. He wants people to pay hundreds of bucks a month to play something that will never be like real racing at the end of the day. No simulator will by definition and will only give approximations. My only issue is the shear amount of money needed to play the game. If others feel different please go ahead, but I would rather save my money for things that are already duplicated elsewhere.

He's not doing anything new, he may have gone a bit more in detail with some aspects, but for me that detail isn't worth the $1200 difference I would have to pay to duplicate the time I have spent in LFS. I can think of a lot of things I can buy with that money that would last those 6 years easily and something I would still be able to sell after I didn't want it. That 1200 is the minimum. Once more content is available that cost difference will go up as you buy more tracks and cars.

Considering iRacings price of $300 a year LFS is a bargain =)

Quote from SamH :I saw that in the vid, and I *naturally* assumed that video artefacts were responsible for the car dipping into the track. Apparently I was wrong.

Cheers for that, it was so blurry I couldn't even see the meshes being messed up at first.

Shotty you really need to stop doctoring those pictures, you will give iRacing a bad name

Quote from dontsimon :There are plenty of supporters who see it's shortcomings. I think it's just a matter of wanting to be positive. There are also cynics and naysayers (some here) who will never see the positives no matter how great it may or may not turn out to be.

Or people just don't want to fork out that kind of money for something when the same could be had elsewhere.

Sure real tracks/cars, I'd rather wait for LFS to have both knowing that the devs are here for the community, not to make cash.

Because they need money to pay for the tracks and services provided?

Not seeing it myself yet, there are other ways to generate cash besides placing it directly onto the consumer.

I'm in the same boat as Sam, I could afford it if I really wanted to, but on principle I won't touch the thing because I don't like how the payments are set up.

Never going to play it, the cost doesn't need to be that high, real content or not, I am not going to pay that much personally.

I played GTR2 for a tiny bit, it was ok, but I hated the multiplayer. Every time someone connected the game would jump and it was hard to get good races in with everyone lagging.

Single player was fun, but the engines sounded flat to me and the physics were good, to a point, they they went south pretty quick for me.

Glad you enjoy LFS, IMO it's the best to be had for physics currently and the best thing is, it's still WIP and being developed so personally I like the idea that it can only get better from here, and I don't have to pay for it! well much more when S3 comes out which we must be nearing in the next year or so, but thats just assumptions.

Quote from Kalev EST :...or he is a bit stupid.

Or that, checked his license on CTRA. Have notes that he was banned when we had the wrecker barricade, and he has since then had a couple reports on him from speed hacking which we have banned him for on the CTRA as well.
